Sacred Geometry 3: Squaring the Circle | Digital Edition
Digital Edition | June 2025
In this month’s Fraternal Review, we return our attention to Sacred Geometry for a third time. At one time in our Fraternity’s modern history, Geometry was considered to be a virtual synonym for Masonry; and it has traditionally been called Sacred, as Geometry is the science by which we study and understand the creation of the Great Architect of the Universe (GAOTU), whose blessings we invoke before entering upon any important undertaking. On this occasion, our focus is on “Squaring the Circle,” an enigma which has so intrigued and baffled human minds that it has over time come to be a virtual synonym for doing the impossible.
Much of the writing here deals with the history of the problem, and several of our guest writers, all Freemasons, thoughtfully explore possible solutions. While we make no pretense of attaining such an exalted result as the impossible, we believe that what we have to share will give you, our readers, much to contemplate upon, and we hope as well, inspiration to admire the creativity of the GAOTU. One might also compare this to each Mason’s personal goal of making himself a “perfect ashlar”—an equally unreachable ideal, but still transformational in the effort.
